Description: The theme of our school division is "One Voice, One Vision: Dream High." The school division and this community speak with one voice in support of children and hold fast to the vision of ensuring that all of our students achieve success. With one voice and one vision we dare to dream high for every single one of our students. We are committed to equipping our students with the tools they need to be successful, helping them recognize their potential and putting them on the path to achieving their dreams.
Details: The basic purpose of the school system is to educate students in the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become self-sustaining and productive members of a democracy. The Fauquier County Public School System will provide opportunities and resources to help individual students attain the level of achievement for which they are capable.
Notes: One of Virginia's required testing programs is the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment Program. The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) provide the framework for the K-12 instructional program, which incorporates a variety of learning experiences for students that focus on the state standards in language arts, mathematics, social studies and science. The Standards of Accreditation (SOA), which were adopted by the Department of Education in September 1997, require that SOL assessments be administered to students in grades 3, 5, and 8. In addition, high school students must take End-Of-Course (EOC) tests as part of the requirements for a diploma. The SOL tests are also used as the major component in determining a school's accreditation status. By the 2006-7 school year, all schools must achieve a passing rate of at least 70% (50% for Grade 3 History and Science) of all eligible students to retain accreditation.
